Can You Sew Like a Proverbs 31 Woman?

The Pinnacle...The Model... The Standard for all God-fearing women to pattern themselves after is the Virtuous woman outlined in the Biblical book of Proverbs 31st chapter. She is the epitome of wisdom, work ethic and initiative amongst an array of other virtues. As well as her social expertise she is very skilled when it comes to hands on tasks. One of the most obvious talents she possesses is her ability to sew; which we will be exploring further in this post.

Proverbs 31:13 - She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

Sewing can sometimes seem like an arduous task; from sourcing materials, measuring,cutting, replacing needles, ironing etc… there are a lot of steps to take you from the beginning of a project to the end. Just as the Proverbs 31 woman demonstrates, a willing mind and work ethic are key character traits that will make sewing less burdensome.

Verse 21- She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

The Proverbs 31 woman is incredibly selfless always looking to use her talent for the benefit of others. When we can keep this is mind, sewing will become more joyous and less of a chore (especially when you can see your work being used/worn by your loved ones). The snow in this verse represents an obstacle; so when something unexpected occurs in your sewing project take it as an opportunity to learn and become better rather than fretting about it.

Verse 22 - She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

Not only can a Proverbs 31 woman clothe others but she can also do for herself and do so in style. Let’s face it, clothes from big brand high street stores are convenient but there is nothing like a unique and/or tailored garment to really make you feel special.

Verse 18 - She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

Anything worth doing, do it well. This is definitely a mantra upheld by the Proverbs 31 woman. She doesn’t do a rushed job with scruffy details but is willing to take her time to produce high quality work to good standards. I’m sure you can recall a time where you’ve followed all the right steps to create something and the feeling of satisfaction you get once you finished was great …#takeyourtime.

Verse 19 - She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

Do you know your way around a sewing machine? Are you super hero with a serger? If yes, then you are well on your way as a proverbs 31 woman as she is very competent when it comes to using various sewing equipment.

Verse 25 - Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

Besides the fact that a Proverbs 31 woman has good dress sense; she ultimately understands that the most important adornments to exhbit are her non-physical virtues.
